Text Type: Article

Text Creator: Sam Sherwood

Critical Literacy question: In whose interest is this text? What is this text about? A teenager who got murdered. How do we know? We know this as it says in the article and also suspects have been arrested.

Date: 8 Of November 2021

On the 5th of November Friday night, an innocent teenager named Conner whitehead was shot outside a 15th birthday party he attended. There have been 4 arrests made and still one more suspect yet to be caught. There was an altercation at the party and conner went outside to get some fresh air. Then the worst happened. Conner messaged his dad while he was at work asking if he could go to the party. His dad said yes have fun and be safe.

When His dad returned home from work about 5.30pm his son was getting ready with a couple of friends. Connor asked if he and his friends could stay at his house following the party, which was okay.

At about 7pm the group went to leave.

“I said, ‘Have a good time mate, I love you.’

“He said, ‘I love you too. He headed out the door and that was the last time I saw him.”

Passion Project

Recently in Wananga, we have been working on our passion projects. We had 4 people in our group. We as a group decided to do an American football tournament. We had to answer some questions for our reflection.

What were some of our challenging moments?? We did not plan very well as we had maybe the last 2 days of having nothing to do as we had already hosted our sports tournament

What was the most important thing I learnt about myself? I learnt that I can work in groups effectively by actively giving new ideas.

How will I use what I have learned in the future? This will help me in the future as I now feel I work better with people now as I used to not really do much in groups. Now I know how to approach new ideas and add on.

Now that's over, What are my first thoughts about this overall project, Are they mostly positive or negative? I have mixed feelings about our overall project. I have happy that we hosted a sports tournament that people had fun in. I really do wish we took photos. That is my biggest regret.

What mostly got in my way of progress? I feel I made really good progress but if there was one thing I could change I feel I talked a lot during this which could have got in the way of me thinking about taking photos

Critical Literacy Question:

Today in Wananga we watched s video based on the millennials it was about how messed the generation is and how we worry too much. We rely on our cellphones for happiness, I believe some of this is truly a little group of millennials rely on their phones etc. I believe this text isn't fair as the man being interviewed doesn't know what it's like to live in this century. No, not every teenager also relies on, Achole, Smokes etc. This video is very stereotypical but it's true towards certain people who are addicted.

The Freedom Writers

In the past 3 periods in English we have been watching The Freedom Writers It's about how a teacher and a class full of teens  Used Writing to Change Themselves and their views on other ethnicities. They end up studying a lot of history timeline in class such as the civil rights movement and the holocaust, They learnt about Anne frank and ended up making a diary about their class and looked at her as a hero, Miep Gies, The person who helped her hide was also featured in the movie, One of the students Marcus falls in love with her (Not literally) and admires her as his hero. They ask her questions and kind of interviewing her. In the end, they try their hardest to get into the same class with Mrs g for Junior year which sadly doesn't happen instead they are with her for the rest of school until they graduate. I find this movie amazing as it is also based on a true story and Mrs. G went on to be a teacher at a university in Californa.

Bacteria Culture

Today In-home economics we have been saving up some food to watch the process we are doing this because we can see the process of bacteria spreading and turning into mold. Right now it is very moldy, and not sure if it's going to get worse than it is already is, These foods that we are using are perishable. So that means it has a really short shelf life. That's why it has molded in a span of 2 weeks. It fully decomposes in around 3 weeks. This reaction is happening because Mold grows on materials it can digest and use it to spread. It can grow on any organic material.

What Really Happened In The Treaty Of Waitangi

Film Title: What Really Happened In The Treaty Of Waitangi

Text Type: Film

Text Creator: Peter Burger

Text Purpose: To inform us about what actually happened in the treaty of Waitangi

Date: 12 Feb 2021

The film we recently watched in class was about what really happened during the treaty of Waitangi the film started off with the English trying it find new land and bumped into new Zeland and that when they found the Maoris, The English really wanted the land so they decided to try to make an agreement on it After awhile the Maoris came over to England where the English hoped the make a deal, But the Maoris went budging it. There was a lot of arguing over the treaty of Waitangi, I don't blame the Maoris for being very skeptical about it have they thought they were risking their rights and land about being taken away from them. After ages the chiefs finally agreed to sign the treaty, They also got blankets and tobacco with the trade which some of the English were not keen on.
