Dissusion Group

Today in English we listened to Mr. Taylor play the guitar. We had to describe how the song he played, Like what time of vibe was it and how it made is feel. For the first one, it seemed like an energetic vibe and Action scene. The 2nd sounded like a Western dessert song, Like a jukebox in a Bar.

Rues Death: Music gets louder to support the theme of hope and rebellion. This is demonstrated when Rue dies through minor chords which makes the viewer feel sad. The tempo of the soundtrack during this scene is slowly revealing the emotion and grief which Katniss is feeling. The dynamic of this scene starts quietly and builds louder as the scene progresses. The director did this to make us have an emotional connection and makes us feel connected to Katniss and she losses hope. This worked well with the following scene where district 11 riots

Market Day And Review Week: 10

Yesterday during the market day we sold games of Black ops 4, It was originally gonna do games of Fortnite but the wifi wasn't working. But it worked out in the end and we made $25.

Strengths: Drinks sold out

Weakness: Wifi because we couldn't let people play Fortnite.

Things that worked well: We sold all our drinks, Made some good money, Worked as a team

Things for next time: Test the wifi before market day. Get more drinks cause they sold well

Workshop 4. Lighting And Colouring

Here is the
link
 to our work Instructions

Atmosphere: The mood or feeling of a place
Mood: Feeling
Location: Where a place is set

Warm Light- Orange, Yellow or red tinge, cozy, warm, welcome
Cold Light- blue, green, white, grey, makes it feel clean, sterile, modern
Bright Light, Obvious, Feel happy, energetic
Dull Light- Faded/Muted light- boring, lonely, sad, tiresome
Natural, sun, Reflections, moon, stars, lighting, fire- Occur from nature
Artificial, Light Bulbs, screens, LEDs, man-made sources of light,

Scene Name: District 12
What's Happening? Katniss is running into the woods to go hunting
Cold Lights, lots of greenery, Dull Light, Natural light (Sun Light and clouds)
Effect on the viewer- Cold, Not the place you want to be, Poverty. Outdated Materials, Dirt Floors
Colour Palette, All the colours in this shot are natural eg greens browns and greys
Directors Purpose- Rich vs Poor, Who has more privileges, power and opportunities
Costumes: District 12 has everyday clothes which are black due to the Coal mines, While the Capitol has high-quality clothes.

Train Station At The Capital
What is Happening? The capitol citizens are waiting for the tributes to arrive.
Techniques- Lighting- cold, bright, Artificial- electricity. Colour Palette- Colourful Vibrant, Vivid Costumes and white/grey modern
Effect On The Viewer, Modern, Sets the mood- Exited for the tributes to come,
Directors Purpose: Rich Vs Poor. What privileges does the capitol have that the districts don't? They have access to technology for eg having trained. Better Clothes. No poverty in Capitol.
Capitol, They don't have to work, Privilege of being able to go and watch the tributes arrive

In the scene at the train station, lighting and colour are used substantially to show the theme of "Rich vs Poor" In this case rich means the privileges given to those in the Capitol. This is demonstrated through the use of bright, cold and artificial lighting and a modern colour palette of whites and greys for the buildings and vibrant pinks and blue for clothing. This makes the audience feel like the location and set a mood of excitement for the tributes to arrive. The purpose of this was to show that the capital has the privilege of technolgy- they have electricity, trains and access to better clothing. This worked well with the use of costumes. The costumes in the capitol are very unique. excrescent  and exotic  which shows they have more variety and sewing technolgy than those of the people in the districts

 Dylan

In Social Studies we have been focusing on technology and how it's changing and evolving.

They found that the Romans made concrete by mixing lime rock and volcanic rock to form a mortar. To build underwater structures, this mortar and volcanic tuff were packed into wooden forms. ... In addition to being more durable than Portland cement, argue, Roman concrete also appears to be more sustainable to produce. They used this cement and they still use it to this day

Roman concrete or opus caementicium was invented in the late 3rd century BC when builders added a volcanic dust called pozzolana to mortar made of a mixture of lime or gypsum, brick or rock pieces and water. The first thing they ever built with their concreter was the conasemium

Technology is always changing and evolving, The ancient Romans have invented a lot of things and we have been focusing on Rome Recently. A good example of technology changing is air conditioner. They used to put cold or warm water inside the walls to warm up their room. They also invented underfloor heating which is hot water under the floorboards and the steam and makes the floor cool. Someone by the name of Willis Carrier made the modern air conditioner but was inspired by the Romans

Romans managed to keep their homes cool during summer months by applying a series of architectural tricks that provided ancient forms of air-conditioning. They pumped cold water from those aqueducts through the walls of elite people's homes to freshen their dwellings during summer months

Sexxy Paragraph

 Statement
In the Reaping scene in The Hunger Games, the idea of rich v poor is explained through the use of wide shots and close-ups.
Explanation

Example
The comparison between the wealth of the Capitol, represented by Effie, and the poorness of District 12 is seen in the wide shot of the people gathered at the reaping.

Example
A closeup shot of Effie reveals quality, colorful make-up, and costume. The wide shot of the crowd is used to show that they are forced to be there. This wide shot also shows a lack of color in the population of District 12’s material and costume to show they are poor.

Quote Hunting

 The Themes In This Film

-Rich Vs Poor

mTask: Explore each theme by Quote Hunting. Find quotes from characters in the film and explain why they are important in explaining each theme. Present these in a creative way.

"Happy Hunger Games may the odds be ever in your favour" Elffie and Caeser. This quote says that when people in District 12 never have their odds in their favour because of their poverty situation. This quote has been used a bit In the movie. The most rememberable moment for me is at the reaping scene when Elffie is about to choose a person for the hunger games in District 12

"The odds have been entirely in her favour but it wouldn't of matter anyway" Katniss, Saying that when she had her favour it didn't matter anyway

"Hope is the only thing stronger than fear" Very true saying you should always have hope instead of fear

Home Economics

1.  Food has changed a lot in the past 100 years such as how its made and how its produced and things like that

2. The biggest reason why its changed is where and how its produced and different things on it such as marinating it in sauce

3. It could be recycled food such as they could make plastic eatables.

4. If we could make robots that instantly produce food when we want and where we want

Rich Vs Poor Theme

Rich

Interview scene:

In the interview scene, the people from the capital have more designer clothing and a lot of makeup. The technology that is used is more modern compared to every other district. In the scene also during the reaping, there is a blood verifier which determines their identity. and the train that is floating which is really modern.

Rich: More opportunities than D-12, the capital would have a lot more food than all the districts example when katniss went to show what she could do they pulled out a whole roasted pig with an apple in its mouth which goes to show they are very rich in food.

Clothing is a big difference as well with the capital and D-12

The way they see food such as eating bones with next to no chicken on them

Poor

Reaping scene:

The reaping scene is when people from each district are chosen to play in the hunger games. A girl and a boy from each district are chosen.

During the reaping scene, there was a video what happens after the hunger games and the garden scene. In the garden scene, the president of the capitol gives speeches and quotes and beliefs for the district's futures.

Poor: Fewer opportunities, no food for

|example Katniss has to leave the area to hunt for food for their family, old clothes, broken buildings, houses.

Paragraph

ln the Hunger Games, Directed by Gary Ross, Costumes are used effectively to show the theme of rich vs poor. For example in the Capitol, the costumes are very posh, They are neat, tidy, colourful; even their dogs are colourful, The material is more futuristic and this makes us understand that the Capitol is more advanced at District 12
